Presentation of Školj Castle in Famlje
Juan P. Maschio presented the digital reconstruction of Školj Castle in Famlje, Divača, following an earlier presentation held at the Faculty of Civil Engineering of the University of Maribor. The event was organized at the invitation of Park Škocjanske Jame and TKŠD Urbanščica, marking the public presentation of nearly four years of research dedicated to the castle.
For many residents of Famlje and the surrounding villages, the presentation offered a unique opportunity to finally see Školj Castle as it once was. Although the ruins have been visited for generations, the digital reconstruction allowed the audience to understand the true scale, form, and importance of the castle within the landscape, something that is no longer visible today from the remaining structures.
Following the presentation, the response from the audience was overwhelmingly positive. Many attendees approached Projekt Feniks to express their appreciation for the work, while others asked further questions about the history of Školj Castle and its role in the region. Several people also shared personal memories connected to visits to the ruins, as well as additional historical information that may contribute to future research.
From a personal perspective, presenting the reconstruction to the local community was particularly meaningful. Showing people their own castle as they had never seen it before helped reinforce awareness of its cultural value and emphasized the importance of protecting and preserving its remains. The event highlighted the role of research, digital reconstruction, and community involvement in safeguarding local heritage for future generations.
