“Heritage: How to stop its downfall” at Mlada Slovenija Ljubljana

At the presentation “Heritage: How to Stop Downfall,” held at Mlada Slovenija in Ljubljana, Juan P. Maschio spoke about the importance of cultural heritage and the urgent need to address its ongoing deterioration.
The presentation examined the structural, social, and political factors that contribute to the collapse of historic buildings, including gaps in responsibility, limited enforcement of heritage laws, and a general lack of long-term vision.

Drawing on research and field experience, the talk contrasted Slovenia’s current situation with practices observed in other countries, highlighting both the consequences of neglect and positive examples of successful heritage recovery.
The presentation emphasized that, despite a difficult present, cultural heritage can have a viable and productive future if preservation is approached with commitment, cooperation, and informed decision-making.
